NAPLES — Kathleen Rever was stunned by the letter from the federal health insurance program for the military that said she could no longer see the primary care doctor she had come to trust.
The March 11 letter from Tricare for active duty and retired military, along with their family members, simply stated her doctor no longer was available. The 55-year-old was being assigned to a doctor in Cape Coral, a bit of a distance from her south Fort Myers home, and the switch was effective in two weeks.
After several phone calls, her husband, Kim Rever, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, learned the NCH Healthcare System no longer was part of the Tricare network. Initially he was told by an NCH patient advocate that there must be some mistake.
